Soup in a Mason Jar – How to Make it and Take it with You!!
Soup in a Mason Jar is an easy and healthy way for you to take lunch with you to work, school or anywhere you need to bring it. These jars of soup are so convenient and the options are endless when it comes to recipes that you simply layer, refrigerate and then add hot water to them when you are ready to eat. All you need to do is remember to add your base to the bottom, then your vegetables, then your meat ( if you want to add it or can make this vegetarian ) then your spinach or green, and last your cheese and seasoning.
Step 1) The base layer can be healthy marinara sauce, pesto of any kind, miso, chicken bullion, or any other creative thing you can think of. Then layer your cooked noodles or rice ( if adding vermicelli noodles like I did in one of mine you don’t have to cook them because the become soft in hot water after a few minutes :). Cooks tip- Depending on your size jar it is usually 1/3- 1/2 cup base if using marinara – for Miso about 1 tbsp mixed with a little water and some garlic , for bullion read the label usually 1/2 of a cube to 1 cup water etc. – get creative!
Step 2) The next layer is your vegetables like, carrots, peas, corn, tomatoes, green beans etc. Then add any type of beans you want, like cannellini or chickpeas to name a few. The last thing I add at this point is your meat, like chicken sausage fully cooked or turkey bacon, chicken and you can skip this step if you want and keep your soup vegetarian.
Step 3) Last you add your spinach, arugula, kale or any leafy green you like and top the whole thing with some salt and pepper, herbs or parmesan cheese etc.
Then just put the top on your creation and place it in the refrigerator until you get to your destination. When you are ready to eat your soup, simply heat up about 1 cup of water in the microwave or stove top and add it to the jar until the line at the top and place the lid back on. I like to shake it once and then let it sit for 2 minutes and then pour it into a bowl and enjoy!
I hope this post has inspired you to create a delicious and healthy soup for your next lunch at work and please leave a comment and let me know what you came up with! :)
